Frequently asked questions about life coaching
Straight answers to the questions people ask most before hiring a coach.
What is life coaching?
Coaching is an ongoing relationship focused on you taking action toward the realization of your visions, goals and desires. It uses a process of inquiry and personal discovery to build awareness and responsibility, and provides structure, support and feedback as you define and achieve your personal and professional goals faster and with more ease than would otherwise be possible.
How is coaching different from therapy?
Coaching is oriented toward the present and the future: goals, action, balance and fulfillment. It is not a substitute for psychotherapy or medical treatment. Michael's background as a master's-level social worker means he brings decades of counseling experience to the work, but the coaching relationship itself is a designed alliance focused on moving you forward.
What does a coaching session look like?
Coaching begins with a 90-minute design session, followed by a weekly schedule of half-hour phone sessions — usually three per month. Clients initiate the calls. During sessions your coach listens fully, shares observations, co-creates next steps, endorses your gifts and offers suggestions that you, as the expert on you, decide to act on.
How much does coaching cost?
Fees for individual coaching are $175 for the initial 90-minute design session, then $225 per month for three weekly half-hour phone sessions. The only other cost is the cost of the call.
Do I need to live near the coach?
No. Most coaching is done by telephone, so location is never an issue in choosing a coach. Michael works with clients wherever they are.
Who works with a life coach?
People hire a coach to begin a new business, find a life partner, change jobs or careers, take better care of themselves, achieve work–life balance, move out of being stuck, fulfill a life dream, follow through on a commitment, live on purpose, and be more alive. If you have a true willingness to change, coaching can help.
Do you offer coaching for gay men?
